On a scarlet shield arched at top and base 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width overall a gray saltire throughout surmounted by a yellow arrowhead issuing from the top of a yellow orb all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border.
Scarlet and yellow (gold) are the colors used for Artillery. The arrowhead issuing upward from the top of the orb alludes to the air defense mission of the Brigade, the saltire which simulates the letter X being the standard map symbol used to represent brigades. The saltire against the red sky of war also alludes to the air defense mission, the cross-fire of the Brigades armament clearing the skies of hostile aircraft and missiles, the orb being a symbol of authority and dominion. As a symbol of dominion it also refers to Virginia, the Old Dominion, while the saltire in simulating the Roman numeral 10 alludes to Virginia being the tenth state to enter the Union.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 31 May 1967. (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-457)
